Resort

Cervinia and Zermatt offer some of the best and most reliable early season conditions in the Alps thanks to their high altitude, the perfect hunting ground to kick your season off in style. You’ll be skiing on the Italian side of the Zermatt Glacier with the Matterhorn in the backdrop.

We’ve chosen the town of Breuil-Cervinia as our base. With plenty of great ski shops, restaurants and bars, surrounded by awesome peaks, this is a special town for a short ski break.

Coaching

This camp is designed to fine tune your technique using the fantastic groomers of Cervinia and Zermatt where you’ll focus on the fundamentals, setting you up for a great season. Long wide groomers are the perfect way to iron out any early season issues and start your winter strongly.

Coaching will be focused on your own personal improvement with outcomes based on carving skills, short radius, increasing speed and building confidence in fall-line skiing.

  • Après video feedback sessions will be provided daily
  • Student to coach ratio of 6:1
Instructors

Our Ski Technical Director, Jens Mende, comes all the way over from Fernie, BC to head up this pre-season camp in Cervinia to get you prepared for a great winter of skiing. He's one of the most experienced and most qualified and respected skiers in Canada - a CSIA Level 4 Ski Instructor since '89 and an active CSIA Course Conductor since '86, as well as a CSIA High Performance Coach and CSCF Level 2 Race Coach.

This year, Anna Stekle, our head ski coach from Banff, will be joining Jens in Italy to prepare and inspire you for the season ahead. Anna is not only a hugely experienced ski coach but might possibly be the nicest person in Canada (which, given the Canadians' friendly nature, is no mean feat!).

Accommodation

The cosy Hotel Mignon is our base for the camp. A traditional mountain chalet with comfortable rooms, a restaurant serving traditional Italian home cooking and a finely stocked cellar.

Typical Day Here's what a typical day in Cervinia will involve...
7.30am
Draw the curtains to the sun rising on the Matterhorn. Retrieve jaw from floor and get ready for another day of fun and progression.
8am
Fuel up on a delicious Italian breakfast before grabbing a coffee for the gondola ride to the peak. Your coach will explain the plan for the day. Step out onto the crisp snow and clip in…
10am
After a fun warm-up lap we’ll ski Cervinia’s glorious pistes while focusing on the fundamental skiing skills to ensure you’re in prime position for the season ahead.
12pm
After lunch in a mountain restaurant we either head over the Italian-Swiss border into Zermatt or to the steeper slopes of Valtournenche.
1pm
The progression continues and with small groups, the coaching is very tailored to your individual needs and is supported by plenty of video footage.
6pm
De-brief (over tea and cake) with your coach back at the hotel viewing video footage and discussing lessons learnt and the focus for tomorrow.
8pm
Over a well-earned glass of Italian wine and a delicious plate of fresh pasta we swap stories on the day’s adventures. The town is enjoyably crowd free so it’s easy to enjoy meeting friendly locals.

FAQs

Will the snow be good enough at this time of year? +

We can never 'guarantee' snow, however historically Cervinia has proved to have reliable snow conditions during the early season and our coaches are highly skilled at utilising the terrain they have open to them to accomplish the objectives.

We also have the option to ski on the glacier if snow coverage within the resort is variable.

Where do I need to fly to and what flight do I need to get? +

We advise that you fly to Milan Linate, Italy. This is where the pre-arranged Nonstop transfer will depart from.

For those in the UK or are flying from London, we recommend the flights below. If you do not book the flight below, your flight must allign with these timings in order for you to use our airport transfer.

Outbound 22 or 28 Nov

Flight: BA0568
Flight arrives Milan Linate: 17:55

Return 27 Nov or 03 Dec

Flight: BA0575
Flight departs MIlan Linate: 16:35

Should I bring my own skis? +

This is completely up to you! In previous years it's been about a 50:50 split between clients bringing their own gear and those who simply rent gear when they arrive. We have established a good relationship with a local ski shop who stock excellent gear and offer reasonable rates. We send clients up to date price lists prior to their departure so they can make an informed decision.
