It would be hard to find a better place in the world to train and work as a ski instructor than Fernie Alpine Resort. Not only is its fun and challenging terrain amazing for your own skiing, but it also attracts the kind of patrons that will be a joy to instruct.

It is a resort that you'll always want to go back to and for that reason many of the instructors who have qualified with us since 2002 have gone on to work and progress in Fernie Ski School. If you're successful in applying for the guaranteed job program - once the CSIA Level 1 training is complete on this course, you'll be joining them for the remainder of the season.

Coaching

You'll take part in our 3 week instructor course in Fernie and our team of highly experienced coaches will refine you’re skiing technique, while showing you the very best way to teach others.

Once you've qualified you'll then be inducted straight into the Nakiska or Fernie Alpine Resort's Winter Sports School, where you'll work until the end of the season.

Guaranteed Job

With a guaranteed job offer before you've even qualified as an instructor, this is an amazing kick-start to a ski instructor career. After your initial three week course, you'll start working right away at either Nakiska or Fernie Alpine Resort's Winter Sports School.

Positions are limited and successful applicants for the program will be selected based on their work and social experience, as well as their technical skiing ability. Every year dozens of our course graduates go on to work in Fernie, Nakiska and the other RCR resorts. So you could still get a job after completing one of our other courses, if you don't make it onto this program.

You'll need a working holiday visa to apply for the program. Next, register your interest in this course with us, and then start preparing a resume and covering letter, including any relevant experience. We'd particularly like to hear if you have any previous coaching, teaching, presentation or leadership experience. In addition, we'd like to know how much skiing experience you have.

Accommodation

Having good accommodation can really make a difference to your season. Often first-season instructors share dorm-style rooms, but with the Fernie program you’ll stay in a twin room in a really comfortable house and it will be yours from the beginning of December until the middle of April.

Course Milestones Get ready for an exciting winter of working as a ski instructor.
Week 1
With a focus on your personal skiing technique, we’ll work on the perfect stance and iron out any bad habits. You'll quickly settle in to life in Fernie and will feel like a local.
Week 2
Your own skiing will continue to develop and we’ll start to introduce teaching skills and explain the CSIA’s student progression. Fernie is beginning to feel like home.
Avalanche Course
A great chance to take an Avalanche Safety Training course equipping you with essential skills for staying safe in the backcountry.
Week 3
Assessment time but no stress, you’re well prepared. The Level 1 exam both develops and tests your skills and with a typical 100% pass rate you’ll smash it.
Cat Skiing
An optional day skiing untouched powder with your new mates and a guide. Similar to heli skiing but using a snow cat, this will possibly be the highlight of your trip.
Week 4
Your employment at Fernie’s Snow Sports School officially starts. After some training you’re ready for your first day wearing the red jacket and teaching your own students.
Your season...
You’re living the dream! Five months in the mountains, passing on your passion for skiing, making new friends from all over the world, and progressing your own skills every day.
