Resort

Fernie has a legendary status in Canada, and it's deserved! Not only does the resort have the longest vertical and largest ski area in the Canadian Rockies, but it also boasts five huge bowls offering some of the most exhilarating and varied off-piste terrain in the world. All this is within patrolled boundaries, giving you a perfect location to really improve your snowboarding skills.

The resort also has a great variation of groomed runs for those who are not yet ready to jump straight into the powder, so there truly is something for everyone.

Coaching

Fernie is irresistible for some of the world's best snowboard coaches, many have now made this awesome town their permanent home.

We are fortunate enough to recruit the very best to work on our programs - what our snowboard instructors don't know isn't worth knowing!

Over the two week snowboard improvement camp you will benefit from their collective decades of experience, as they support you to master the basics or refine your high-end all-mountain skills. One of your lessons will even start with 'First Tracks', getting the lifts with your group before they are open to the public so you can dive into the powder before anyone else.

Groups

You’ll be grouped with snowboarders of similar ability and similar goals so you can all improve together and tackle terrain that pushes you all.

Confident on groomed runs but feel restricted by your technique and dream cruising through powder, our improvement camps will take your riding to the next level. Our coaches will work closely with you, building your confidence and ability so you can tackle more advanced terrain.

Fernie is famed for its challenging terrain and deep powder. On our off-piste camps you’ll be taken to the most challenging parts of the mountain and work on building your technique in the steep and deep. Perfect for snowboarders with off-piste experience that want to push themselves.

Weekends & Activities

Inject even more fun and adventure into your time:

  • First tracks: Start your lesson with our pros with the slopes all to yourselves. A great sunrise photo opportunity!
  • Cat boarding: Like heli-boarding, but a fraction of the cost. A full day riding untracked powder in the company of guides, with a piste basher taking you to the top. Possibly the highlight of your year.
  • Technical sessions: get the most out of your snowboarding with weekly sessions covering topics such as board tuning, stretching & injury prevention, the history of snowboarding, equipment advice and nutrition.

Accommodation

Our own hotel, the Red Tree Lodge, acts as the official hub of the course. When the Red Tree gets fully booked we accommodate people at the nearby Best Western; it’s a 5 minute walk away. This causes the overall cost to be more expensive due to the Best Western’s higher rates – so booking early is recommended!

There is the choice of shared or private rooms - regardless of whether you are travelling alone.  Rooms are spacious with queen sized beds, en suite bathrooms and widescreen TVs. Breakfats will be served at your hotel & inclusive evening meals are served at the Smokehouse, on site at the Red Tree Lodge. There are plenty more bars, restaurants and shops within a short walk.

Each morning we'll take you on a short bus ride to the mountain, where your snowboard is stored overnight, ready for an epic day on the slopes!

Typical Day Here's what a typical day in Fernie will involve. Now... imagine two weeks of this! Note this is a guideline only.
0730
Wake up to the sound of the ski patrol bombing the mountain because there's been a fresh dump of snow. Energise with breakfast.
0900
Meet your group and discuss the day's objectives. Your coach will lay out the plan, finding the best terrain and snow. Get ready to learn, progress and have fun.
1200
You'll need to stop at some point. Reflect on a great morning and the wipe outs over lunch. Maybe try some Canadian poutine.
1300
Ride some more until your legs give up. Consolidate the skills you were working on in the morning with more mileage and drills.
1500
With coaching for the day complete, enjoy a freeride, head back to your favourite runs or go hit the après early.
1600
Share a jug of beer in the Griz with friends. Head back to the lodge for a hot tub. There might be a tech talk on board maintenance or biomechanics.
1800
Relax over a well earned dinner as you swap stories from the day's adventures. Lots of chatter in anticipation of the next day.
2000
Head into downtown Fernie for a drink. Embrace Canadian life and cheer on the local ice hockey team. Or just kick back in the movie room.
