5 reasons to visit the London Ski & Snowboard Festival

A four-day live experience, find out why you should come along to check out the winter revelries. (4 min read)

The UK’s only major ski and snowboard show – The Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Festival – is returning to the heart of London in Battersea Park on 25-28 October, and for many snowsports fanatics this marks the official onset of winter.

For its 45th iteration, the event has been reimagined as a ‘festival’ and transformed into a four-day live experience. Prepare to immerse yourself in alpine surrounds and get pumped, inspired and ready for the upcoming snow season.

Nonstop will be in attendance on stand 618 to meet and chat with past and future guests, but here are a few other reasons to come along and check out the winter revelries.

Marvel over Mount Battersea

Dominating the festival landscape, Mount Battersea will once again erupt into life. From style sessions to big air competitions, the al fresco, 50ft kicker with real snow will play launchpad to some of the UK’s best ski and snowboard athletes.

MC-n-all, grab a beer and watch the riders lay it all on the line with gnarly tricks from double backies to cork 9s. Probably the best place to hang out at the festival, apart from our stand, that is. And before you wonder off elsewhere, don’t forget to pick up your jaw as may have hit the floor from the skills on show. Maybe you’ll be inspired to set your own snow goals this season.

There’ll also be interviews with athletes and avalanche training sessions at the base of the kicker for future backcountry explorers. Sessions lasting 45 minutes will take you through essential mountain skills and how to use a transceiver.

The après scene

Ski-boot-table-dancing aside, the festival is set to bring slopeside après vibes right to Battersea Park in its alpine-village bubble. With winter-themed street food, après bars open till late on Friday and Saturday, plus DJ-sets and live music from up-and-coming acts, what more could you desire as an escape from the city and prelude to winter.

Grab your mates and glass of gluhwein or jagertee, swap stories of your on-snow exploits, and sip and dance away overlooking Mount Battersea. If last year is anything to go by, the après festivities will all but take you to the mountains.

Take to the slopes

If, like us, you’re itching to get your first turns of the season, check out the indoor ski slope from Chel-ski. What is this, you ask? A treadmill-style slope with an adjustable gradient and speed, astroturf-like material sprayed with water provides grip.

The result: an endless piste to brush up on your skills ahead of winter. Endorsed by athletes, there are free sessions with qualified instructors throughout the festival as well as demos from leading pros.

What else? They’ll also be Q&As with Britain’s Olympic heroes, as well as film screenings and mountain talks from the likes of Protect Our Winters.
