Whistler Blackcomb is one of the best known ski resorts in the world. Made up of two previously independent resorts, Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain. The now combined resort of Whistler Blackcomb has a massive 8,100 acres area.
Whistler is one of the world's most promoted ski resorts and is the first that comes to most people's minds when thinking about Canada. It's certainly an amazing resort for a holiday (and one of our Snow Safari tours visits Whistler).
However over the last decade we've found that for our camps, our ski instructor courses and our snowboard instructor courses, we can offer far better value in Canada's other premium resorts of Fernie, Banff and Red Mountain, where you can enjoy an authentic Canadian experience, and equally good terrain and snow, but without the crowds.
Whistler Blackcomb has over 12 alpine bowls to choose from; 8,100 acres of terrain; 200 marked trails and 33 lifts, making it one of the largest places in the world to ski. The massive snowfall makes it an ideal location for those keen on experiencing "West Coast powder" unlike any snow found in Europe.
The terrain is varied and challenging, which makes it perfect for coaching; with groomed pistes for practising instructor drills and more challenging areas of gladded trees and alpine powder bowls for concentrating on your off piste technique.
Due to the large number of jobs available Whistler is a great place to spend a season and we have a range of affordable apartments available for season long lets. All are located within easy reach of the lifts, as well as Whistler and Blackcomb villages.
The apartments can either be booked by whole groups or, more normally, are booked by many single seasonnaires who become housemates for the season - let us take the stress out of finding somewhere to live for the season!
Being a truly international resort, Whistler Blackcomb attracts skiers and snowboarders from all around the world. With over 200 shops there is plenty to distract you whilst you are off the mountain; on the food side the 90 plus restaurants on and off the mountain offer every type of food imaginable.
As far as après ski is concerned Whistler Blackcomb has got all needs catered for, be dancing on tables at Merlin's, relaxing with the locals at Dusty's or partying the night away at Tommy Africa's. Whistler is a town full of energy but at the same time manages to retain a friendly atmosphere. If you want a total break from skiing or snowboarding, the options are endless.
Whistler is a great place to visit on holiday and its popularity makes it a hive of activity year round. Its size, infrastructure and popularity equals some of the larger European resorts, and although you may have to beat the crowds to get fresh lines a little more than you would in the rest of Canada, the all round experience is still amazing.
Amazing enough, in fact, that our Ski Snow Safari and Snowboard Snow Safari has an option to finish in Whistler after passing through Banff, Kicking Horse, Revelstoke and Sun Peaks. On this trip you'll go from breathtaking beauty in Banff, to the steep and deep of Kicking Horse, Revelstoke and Sun Peaks, to the massive ski area of Whistler with pristine pistes and huge parks.
We'll be adding Colleen's thoughts on Whistler here shortly, come back soon!
My gig with Nonstop is probably the best! I sometimes feel guilty for it but I am almost sure nobody hates me for it! I get to jump from one wicked resort to the next while leading my guests through the Snow Safaris. To me, that is why the Nonstop experience is so amazing. Every new hill we arrive at, my job is to show my interim family every sweet spot the mountain is hiding. By the time we have sessioned each lift, it’s time to pack up and explore the next one. One Trick Pony, Kill the Banker, Beer Belly and Easter Bowl are only few favourite runs, come find yours!
