Course Structure

This is a typical course layout that we adapt to the specific needs of the group and individuals. Throughout the course there will be ongoing practice lessons, lesson planning, and excercises and debriefs to develop a dynamic teaching style along with on going video analysis and one on one sessions.

Weeks 1-5

WEEK 1
  • The four movements in skiing
  • Getting to know each other
  • Introduction to Porters ski area and staff
  • Assess personal skiing & set goals
WEEK 2
  • Intro. to skiing progression
  • Intro. to beginner lessons level 1 & 2
  • Mock lessons
  • Free ski at Porters
WEEK 3
  • Teach mock lessons
  • Common causes and faults and how to fix them
  • Personal skiing development on-piste
  • Free skiing off-piste at Club Fields
WEEK 4
  • Teach mock lessons
  • Safety and group dynamics
  • Teaching and learning styles
  • Skier analysis
  • Free skiing off-piste at Club Fields
WEEK 5
  • Level 1 exam at Mt Hutt

Weeks 6-12

WEEK 6
  • Rookie Lessons with Ski School
  • Skier movement analysis
  • Short turn training
  • Off-piste skiing at Club Fields
WEEK 7
  • Rookie experience continued
  • Intro to and development of levels 3-5 lesson progressions (lesson planning, exercises, technical understanding and how to apply, skier analysis)
WEEK 8
  • Increasing speed and dynamics in personal skiing (various turn shapes over various terrain with high dynamics and precission)
WEEK 9
  • We will individually assess students so that those who wish to learn further higher level teaching skills needed for level 2 can do so and a different focus can be given to those consolidating their knowledge needed for the level 1 resit.
Week 10
  • Skier movement analysis

Week 11 + 12
