It would be hard to find a better place in the world to train and work as a ski instructor than Fernie Alpine Resort. Not only is its fun and challenging terrain amazing for your own skiing, but it also attracts the kind of patrons that will be a joy to instruct.
It is a resort that you'll always want to go back to and for that reason many of the instructors who have qualified with us since 2002 have gone on to work and progress in Fernie Ski School. If you're succesful in applying for the guaranteed job program - once the CSIA Level 1 training is complete on this course, you'll be joining them for the remainder of the season.
If you're succesful in applying for the guaranteed job in Nakiska, once your training is complete in Fernie, you'll head off to start your new career.
As Calgary's closest mountain, Nakiska is visited by lots of skiers on short breaks as well as school groups. It's an ideal place for a rookie season. With an average of 30 to 40 hours work per week, it's the way to go if you want to get plenty of instructing under your belt.
You'll be living in staff accommodation for the winter, which is heavily subsidised and is deducted from your salary each month. And your staff season pass will be valid for all of RCR's resorts - which includes Fernie, Kimberly and Kicking Horse.
With a guaranteed job offer before you've even qualified as an instructor, this is an amazing kick-start to a ski instructor career. After your initial three week course, you'll start working right away at either Nakiska or Fernie Alpine Resort's Winter Sports School.
Positions are limited and successful applicants for the program will be selected based on their work and social experience, as well as their technical skiing ability. Every year dozens of our course graduates go on to work in Fernie, Nakiska and the other RCR resorts. So you could still get a job after completing one of our other courses, if you don't make it onto this program.
You'll take part in our 3 week instructor course in Fernie and our team of highly experienced coaches will refine you’re skiing technique, while showing you the very best way to teach others.
Once you've qualified you'll then be inducted straight into the Nakiska or Fernie Alpine Resort's Winter Sports School, where you'll work until the end of the season.
Having good accommodation can really make a difference to your season. Often first-season instructors share dorm-style rooms, but with the Fernie program you’ll stay in a twin room in a really comfortable house and it will be yours from the beginning of December until the middle of April.
If you're succesful in applying for the Nakiska program, you'll be staying in subsidised staff accommodation for the season. Even better, you don't have to pay the whole season up front, your accommodation cost will be deducted from your salary each month.
First of all register your interest in this course with us, and then start preparing a resume and covering letter, including any relevant experience. We'd particularly like to hear if you have any previous coaching, teaching, presentation or leadership experience. In addition, we'd like to know how much skiing experience you have. We'll also need to know whether you'd like to apply for the guaranteed job in Fernie, Nakiska or both.
