Last week participants on our 11 week instructor course in Fernie gained valuable experience working as ski and snowboard instructors. Having run courses in Fernie for the past ten years, Nonstop are an important part of the local community and every year we give something back by offering free lessons to locals who could otherwise not afford them.
Having just qualified as CSIA & CASI level 1 instructors the Nonstop crew jumped at the chance to put their new qualifications to use. Not only do local children get the opportunity to enjoy the mountain and improve their skills, but our guys get to realise the fact they are now fully fledged instructors! The dream is becoming reality and now the crew are focussed on stepping up the training for their level 2 qualifications in around five weeks time.
These ‘Community Days’ are unique to Nonstop and offer any budding ski or snowboard instructor the opportunity to gain valuable work experience that will really make them stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs. Having the opportunity to give real lessons for the first time is also a huge confidence boost and will make their first day at their future job that little bit less daunting!
Carmen, a local resident in Fernie said ‘Thanks SO much to all your instructors. We had, once again, a wonderful two days of Nonstop lessons! The kids loved them and all got something from them’. Our Community Days are a great experience for all involved.
