NONSTOCK Festival ’09

What a weekend…

Here in the NONSTOP office we’ve only just recovered from last weekend’s festivities at NONSTOCK ’09.  Everything came together to make what I consider to have been the best weekend of the summer. The weather was truly perfect – hot, clear skies & no wind. The atmosphere was amazing – everyone was so stoked to see each other again having in many cases not caught up since they left their courses in Canada.  Add to this incredible performances from Jo Driscoll, Melosa and Beats in Abundance. Oh, and a cracking bar with probably Britain’s cheapest drink prices. All in all it was a truly memorable weekend of catching up with friends, meeting new ones, partying, dancing, exploring the beautiful south west, and making the most of the great British summer. Pictures apparently tell a thousand words so here’s a few to give an idea of what went on…

An amazingly beautiful place to camp.

Different camping sections depending on where you did a course, or are about to do a course.

Kick start the party. £1.50 for a pint, £2 for a jaeger bomb.

For some NONSTOCK was a reunion party, but for others it was a chance to meet other people going on the same ski or snowboard course as them. Above is a group going to Banff this winter. And Brad, on the left below, came all the way from South Dakota, U.S.A to join the party – his first trip out of North America. Great effort Brad, thank you. Also thanks to Malin who came from Sweden.

Joe Driscoll, above, was  truly inspirational. By recording and looping his beat boxing, guitar and vocals he created a sound that a 10 piece band would be proud of. Needless to say the whole tent was bouncing! Check out his tunes here: http://www.joedriscoll.net/

Melosa then played an amazing set of super danceable funk and ska tunes. They’re a local band from Exeter and they obviously have a lot of performance experience as they played a great set that got everyone dancing fast and furious. http://www.myspace.com/melosalive

The boys from Beats in Abundance Jesse and Luke (below) played several amazing sets for which we’re so grateful. Both on Friday and Saturday nights they kept playing tracks that just hit the right spot time and again.

Swimming and boating on the lake helped wash away our hangovers.

Devon is stunning, especially when the sun doesn’t stop shinning. We were so fortunate.

Until next year… when we hope you can join us.

To do so you need to come on one of our ski or snowboard improvement or instructor courses.
