Fernie 11 week Instructor Course 2015.16 - Week 8 Udpate from Jamie!

Welcome to Week 8! It’s been an absolute corker here in Fernie, both on and off the piste. Improving our carving technique was the name of the game and the conditions were perfect for it.

With the fearless Joel as our instructor we were all getting the occasional Ted Ligety-esque carving moment or two by the end of the week. Equally as awesome was Wednesday’s half-day park course, on which many of us nailed our first proper rail or two! Whilst not quite X-Games standard yet it’s amazing how quickly we’ve all progressed!

Off the piste, a gang of us were lucky enough to visit the Fernie Brewing Co HQ, and get… on the piste, as it were. A big thanks to Abi for the guided tour of the brewery! I’m honestly not sure how I’m going to survive back home without a weekly fix of ‘Project 9’ or ‘Big Caboose Red Ale’.

Thursday was ‘Team Synchro Day’. After a morning spent developing and honing our elaborate team-based synchronised skiing routine, it was time to show it off to the judges. This was, of course, not before donning team fancy dress. One team dressed as grannies, whilst another decided on some sort of large-busted cross-dressing theme. Whatever the choice, there were big ‘style points’ up for grabs and everyone wanted their outfits to shine brightest. Unfortunately for my team, by the time the competition was upon us we were down from five to two through injury and hangovers. The good news was that Dan’s delightful ‘silver-heart’ onesie, and my particularly catching ‘kitten-in-a-diamond necklace’ onesie were enough to catch the judges attention and win us the most excellent prize of a large KitKat bar.

To finish the week off in style we jumped on the trusty Nonstop bus and headed a few miles out of town and into the woods for a good ol’ fashioned bonfire with some beers (a lot of beers) and some good (questionable) tunes. Next week sees us focusing our efforts on trees and bumps. Bring it on!
