Cat skiing at Valhalla Powdercats

Here’s another update from the Red Mountain NONSTOP crew. Here’s Ben Warner’s take on Catskiing in Valhalla:

Those of us who went to Valhalla are still smiling, those who didn’t go now hate us. Everytime they log in to Facebook and see some more photos or videos of us floating on 3 feet of fresh powder their hatred grows  and grows.

We’d all been talking about Valhalla for weeks and when we had a massive dump of snow in the days preceding our trip we could barely contain ourselves. I spent the night before laying out all my clothes, setting two separate alarm clocks and I even cut my toenails (I didn’t want anything to ruin my day!).

We left before dawn and before we knew it liability waivers were being signed, complementary muffins were being wolfed down and we just couldn’t stop smiling. After a pretty bumpy bus ride we arrived at the cats and chucked our boards and skis on the back. We then tucked into more complimentary snacks (I couldn’t get enough of the pumpkin whoopies!) and after a quick avalanche safety presentation we were back in the cat and on our way to take care of some business.

Fresh tracks, awesome terrain and a stupid amount of powder, that’s how I’d sum up the hours that followed. We managed to squeeze in 9 runs and we did everything including open faces, tight tree runs and even a few big jumps (kudos to Charlie for his sweet landing off a 20 foot jump). Judging from the amount of high-fiving going on and the insane smiles that we just couldn’t shakes, I’d say that everyone had an awesome day. We experienced the best snow conditions I’ve ever seen and that’s saying something after a season in Red!

Who wants to go with me again?
