Banff 11 week instructor course diary – weeks 4 & 5
It’s been a tense time for NONSTOP in Banff camp, with Level 1 nerves sweeping through the group. Here’s a combined week 4 and 5 update from the lovely Emilly:
Week 4
It’s the last week before our level 1 so things have started to get a little more serious on snow – although there was still time to have fun in-between practice teaching and wedge turns. It was Australia day on Tuesday and Tom went skiing in his board shorts and vest – he lasted a lot longer than everyone thought he would. It was the first yoga session too, which didn’t have the turn-out anticipated but it’s now going to be a steady Tuesday night thing, so hopefully it will attract more and more people each week – and best of all it is at the Voy! This week the social night was at the Paddock after our Thursday meal in town. It was buffet style and what a feast – fortunately there was just enough left over after Ashley attacked it (see the before and after photos!!). Emily wouldn’t let him leave until he had eaten everything on his plate! Ha ha. Where does that boy put it? Stu and Elliot were victorious in the pool comp after some controversial knock outs with ‘calling the pocket’ not specified as a rule and some fluky pots of the black. 5-a-side Friday has started to see a regular turn out. This weekend was the avalanche course so either people went up and practiced for their Level 1 or they spent Sunday digging snow pits and jumps. Although I don’t think the jumps were part of the course. Roll on Level 1!!
Week 5
100% PASS RATE – enough said! We are the most successful NONSTOP group in Banff in 5 years! The head evaluators for both skiing and snowboard kept us guessing and thinking we had failed right up until the last minute but shocking everyone (including themselves I think) they announced we had all passed. There were a few who got a special mention with above standard teaching and riding so props to them!
New skills this week: qualified as level 1 instructor and found the big V! (that’s a technical term in the world of crochet so Emily has led us to believe).
