Fernie 11 Week Ski Instructor Course ‘07 – Week 11

Final week by The Fernie Warrier, Ian Stewart

I can’t believe we are now in the last week of our course, the past 10 have just flown by! Those of us sitting the later level 2 still have work to do and need to stay focused.

The snow conditions couldn’t be better, it’s been snowing all weekend and there’s a snow alert for the next 2 day’s with a predicted drop in temperature to -11c (Awesome)! When it’s like this lessons take on a new perspective POWDER!!!!!

We usually have a blast first thing in the morning then get down to the more serious stuff in the afternoon (it’s all good)!

Thursday is our last lesson day and after a morning of reviewing a few drills our instructors have set up a skier-cross race track for us to rip it up! We’ve got tight turns, a series of bumps and a couple of jumps.

The format is 2 runs against an opponent with the losers being eliminated and the winner gaining points and going forward to the next round. Fun prizes and a presentation at a local eatery put the final touches to a wonderful 11 weeks skiing!!!

It’s a beautiful sunny day and a perfect way to end our time with our fabulous instructors who have worked so hard to ensure that we’ve all had a fun time.

Saturday is our end of course banquet with some fun awards to various recipients, one of the funniest being a certificate to Calamity Andy who spent as much time at the local physio as he did in lessons.

Sunday is the day we’ve all been dreading, departure day for some! As expected it turns out to be a tearful afternoon saying goodbye to some great friends who just 11 weeks ago where total strangers. Bon voyage dear friends!!!!
